Call to Order/Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Larry Lee at 1:30p.m. A quorum was present.

Report of the Chair

Commissioner Lee distributed copies of a diversity poll conducted by the Plumbers Union to demonstrate that there is true diversity in labor unions.

New Business

1) Presentation and Discussion regarding the ATSA by Justice for Screeners representatives Jaymee Faith Cadiz Sagisi and Jeanne Batallones

2) Approved - Letter to Henry Nunn, Chief, California Division of Apprenticeship Standards and Rick Browning, Business Manager, IEUC Local #8, requesting information on the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee of the Elevator Industry.

3) Approved - Adoption of Letter of Commendation to VVJET Executive Director Larry Fleming, for his work on the Geneva Towers Housing Replacement Project, from its inception as middle income small family housing through the difficult years of deterioration to its transformation to the vibrant neighborhood of Heritage Homes.

4) Approved - Staff to prepare a draft of a follow-up letter to Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta regarding concerns about the implementation of the ATSA Privatization Pilot Program for airport security.

5) Presentation on Chinese for Affirmative Action employment development program activities and current employment trends - Leo Chyi. Mr. Chyi gave a comprehensive presentation on CAA. He explained that CAA is a nonprofit corporation that provides employment, training and research services to employers and job seekers in San Francisco and particularly in Chinatown and Visitacion Valley.

6) Presentation on Mission Neighborhood Hiring Hall - Judy Starbuck Sorro. Ms. Starbuck Sorro showed a four-minute video on the achievements of Rick Sorro to establish and maintain the Mission Neighborhood Hiring Hall. She reviewed the recruitment, screening, counseling, and referral services conducted at the Hall.
