Call to Order/Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by Jerry Jones at 1:40p.m. A quorum was not present.

The minutes of the October 5, 2003, meeting was postponed.

Staff Report

Mr. Hypolite reported on the Institute For Democratic Change Conference Against Hate Crimes: A German-American Symposium on Preventing Bias Motivated Violence jointly sponsored by the German government and the San Francisco Human Rights Commission held on November 4, 2003.

New Business

  1. Ann Lehman, Senior Policy Analyst, Department on the Status of Women delivered a report on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) in San Francisco.
  2. Corinne White, Human Resource Coordinator, Hunt Construction Group and Ed Campos, HRC Representative, delivered a presentation on Moscone Convention Center Expansion Project hiring and retention patterns. Employment Committee member Judy Starbuck-Sorro registered discontent with the manner in which Hunt Construction Group worked with Mission Neighborhood Hiring Hall. Ms. Sorro complained that the organization was not sufficiently included in the hiring process and that Commission oversight was inadequate. Ms. White said that several notices went to the community based organizations including the Mission Neighborhood Hiring Hall. It was noted that control of the good faith hiring goal process is the contractor’s responsibility.
  3. Len Vetrone, V. P. Construction Nibbi Bros. Contractors, reported on the challenges of meeting minority employment and retention goals
