Community Project on Islamophobia and Post-9/11 Racial/Ethnic Discrimination

The San Francisco Human Rights Commission is seeking participants for a community-based photography project that will shed light on Islamophobia and post-9/11 ethnic/racial discrimination, including discrimination against Arab and Sikh communities.

Through a community-based participatory project, participants will volunteer to take pictures and engage in a critical dialogue about their lived experience with Islamophobia or post-9/11 ethnic/racial discrimination. They will also identify coping strategies and community strengths that help to counter the negative health effects and consequences of such discrimination.

The project will sponsor photography exhibits where participants share their own photos about discrimination and resilience in San Francisco.

Participating community members must commit to:

  • Attending 4, 3-5 hour workshop sessions
  • Taking and sharing photos about their experiences with Islamophobia or post-9/11 ethnic/racial discrimination
  • Participating in small group discussions about their life experiences
